Relying on Epiq Trustee Services from Case Beginning to Case End
- Trustee Services
“I wouldn’t even dream of leaving Epiq,” states Trustee Warren Cuntz, whose Mississippi trusteeship relies on Epiq. From the beginning, when debtors first file a case, Epiq is there. “We actually hire Epiq to enter cases into the system software. It’s much cheaper than having one of my employees do it,” Cuntz explains
He also trusts Epiq to provide and maintain all of his office hardware. “The laptop that I’m talking to you on right now belongs to Epiq,” he laughs. “I can’t understand why a trusteeship wouldn’t do this. I lease everything from servers to printers to monitors from Epiq. It’s all built into the one cost.” The hardware wouldn’t be worth much without the upkeep and maintenance to ensure security and reliability. In that area, Cuntz heaps high praise on Epiq’s IT staff. “The IT lead for us is absolutely fabulous,” he says. “If he needs to update something or there’s an IT issue, he lets me know and it goes seamlessly.”
As a prime example of the level of service he receives from Epiq, Cuntz harkens back to 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. “Katrina hit on August 27th,” he recalls, “and we did not miss the September disbursement. That was because of Epiq.”
Software tools that streamline operations
Epiq’s Case Power software ensures the trusteeship has access to any required or desired reports and information. “We shut our books at twelve noon on the last business day of every month,” Cuntz says. “By two o’clock that day, I have every single report that I need. I can pull any report I want, from how much money we made that month to how many cases got paid out and what amounts, cases dismissed, who got checks over $1000… all of it. It’s so user-friendly.”
Of course, the software also streamlines the creation of the eight reports Cuntz is required to run as a US Trustee. “All I do is go in and pull them up. If they look fine to me, I convert to PDF and boom, it goes in the folder for the month. I love it.”
Cuntz can now also leverage Epiq’s AACER platform, which provides complete, timely, and accurate bankruptcy data from across the US. “You can find case filing trends, like which states have the most filings. If I see that caseloads in my area are falling, for instance, it can help me predict my budget.
“If I had to describe Epiq on one phrase,” Cuntz concludes, “I’d call it a ‘one-stop shop’ for trustees. I use it for everything. And the fact that they offer the depth and breadth of services that they do means that you can scale up and down. You can always depend on them.”
