A Young Trusteeship Relies on Epiq

From the beginning of her work as a trustee over five years ago, Krista Preuss has partnered with Epiq Trustee Services. Why? Because she had seen the difference Epiq could make.
“I previously worked in a trusteeship that used Epiq, and I was also the trustee in the Southern District that used rather antiquated trustee software services,” Preuss recalls. “I was comfortable with the Epiq system, and I knew it was a good product. It’s both reliable and accurate.”
Because Preuss relies on Epiq software to house and organize all her bankruptcy data, an intuitive interface is critical. “We don’t have a lot of turnover in the office,” she observes,” but when we do have a new person come in, it’s clear that once they open up the system and someone explains it to them, they can find their own way through to get the job done. It’s quite intuitive.”

In addition, should something prove unfamiliar, help is available. “Whenever I have to do something that I’m not familiar with,” Preuss states, “I can get someone from the Epiq Chapter 13 team on the phone just to make sure that I’m doing it the right way.”
The reliance on Epiq also requires maximum uptime, and quick response and resolution should issues arise. “I have close to 2000 cases and we use Epiq to organize all of them,” she says. “They are really responsive when we need some troubleshooting,” Preuss states. “When there’s an issue, we can get on the phone with someone and have it resolved rather quickly.”
A major differentiator Preuss sees between Epiq and other bankruptcy providers she’s familiar with are their check printing services. “It’s the gold standard,” she says. “It’s fantastic.” Printing checks in-house used to require significant amounts of staff time and dealing with hardware snafus like printers getting clogged. The check printing service also simplifies the annual auditing process. “It’s nice for our auditing standards that we have no check stock in the office, so I don’t have to worry about that.”
Epiq also helps during audits in other ways. “They run a lot of reports from the data that we have in our system that the auditors require and they’re also usually available if we have questions during the audit or if we need additional reports run.”
When asked how she’d rate Epiq’s Trustee Services on a 1-10 scale with 10 being best, Preuss offers an unequivocal 9. “We couldn’t do our jobs without the software,” she says. Her positive experiences and increasing familiarity with both the product and the Epiq team only intensified her desire to continue partnering with Epiq. “I know the people are really gung-ho about their product,” she concludes. “That’s a big part of why I’ve worked with them so long.”
