Masayuki Kamata Senior Review Manager & TAR Consultant Document Review Services

Masayuki Kamata is a senior review manager & TAR consultant at Epiq, based in Tokyo, Japan. In his role, Mr. Kamata works closely with law firms and corporate clients based in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, upholding high-quality standards of document review, and creating tailored workflows which ensure counsel’s objectives are achieved in an efficient and timely manner. Other key responsibilities include managing Epiq’s internal review teams, ensuring quality control, implementing validation procedures for defensibility, and consulting Epiq’s clients on the use of Technology Assisted Review (TAR) workflows. He has detailed working knowledge on industry-leading review platforms with experience managing a wide range of electronic discovery projects, including DOJ investigations, US civil litigations, international arbitrations, Asian and international regulatory actions, including anti-trust and FCPA matters, and internal investigations.  

Previous Professional Experience

As a team manager at a Japanese educational company, Mr. Kamata engaged in member training, operations management, and drafting legal documents for start-up businesses. At Epiq, he supervised review teams in the APAC region for 4 years before moving to the Client Services division in 2020. Within Client Services, he served as an Associate Director for Japan and South Korea supervising day-to-day operations while providing overall support throughout the eDiscovery project lifecycle.

Education/Speaking Expertise

Mr. Kamata holds a Bachelor of Law from Keio University in Tokyo; a Juris Doctor from Waseda Law School in Tokyo with a Suenobu Scholarship; and a Master of Laws degree from University of California Berkeley School of Law. 

He is certified as a Relativity Expert and has served as a frequent speaker and consultant on the topics of multilanguage document review and the use TAR.
