A Washington, D.C., law firm billed Ottawa more than $5 million to defend Canada’s interests in high-stakes international trade disputes, while the No. 1-billing private-sector prosecutor of illicit drugs and other federal crimes billed the Department of Justice more than $3 million last year, according to the Public Accounts of Canada for 2020-2021, The Lawyers Daily reported.
